So You Want to Start-Up a Website Company, or Maybe Build a Personal Website

So you want to build a website, or better yet, a website business. So where do you begin? With a Web Hosting Company, but which One!

Seven Types of Web Hosting

1. Shared
2. Re-seller
3. Cloud
4. Virtual
5. Dedicated
6. Co-location
7. Self-Service

There are many "Free" web hosting providers some come with other services such as a package deal or a freebie, to say a Cable TV package or Satellite TV, Internet and Phone Service package and still other websites offer this to boost their traffic to their sites or draw you into their other services.

Remember just because it is "Free" or next to "Free".

That you will always get what you pay for.

I have heard and read about many who say they built a great site and then their provider went under or that they couldn't transfer their sites data to their new website because of odd programming or outdated programming.

These "Free" sites are often incompatible with the receiving and new web hosting companies. So all that hard work and time is lost or useless.

Today's Web Hosting Companies are very reasonable compared to years ago.

Best Ten Web Hosting Sites

What is Web Hosting?

Web Hosting is a Service that provides for you a way to maintain and house your many Files and their Programs, that make up your HTML pages, that make up your website and its view ability.

It contains hundreds of thousands of file extensions, often it has a high end server or several high end servers and a network of additional servers to connect to the Internet 24/7 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, 365 days a year and year round.

This continuous service has become a very well honed and oiled machine. It is now easier to provide for the industry. Hence today, versus ten, five, and even two years ago, these web host's are many, many, more if not thousands more.

And providers, are added daily, more so than in the past. And for this service niche, because of the advancements being made in these servers and their systems. Supply and Demand

Why do you need a Hosting site well the biggest reason was system space, back ups, and maintenance of the file systems themselves.

The High End part of a server today is the programs that run and maintain these file structures and when these programs mess up and they do, another backup server and system is in place, a redundancy fail safe!

These programs themselves are very costly, not to mention the Hardware and Technical staff and/or Consultants that understand and maintain them and their programming.

Also and somewhat important they are usually more reliable than home based servers and programs which there are some out there and I hope to someday have for my own website(s) Server at home in in my control.

So the Cost, Skill and Knowledge, plus the time for a novice to learn and then maintain these systems and their server(s) would not leave them any time to create and manage their own sites.

Plus with the kind of money it would take to start-up, maintain, and build one of today's large scale and compatible, Hosting Facilities, well that equals Big $$$.

This would defeat the average individual's financial means and or budget or eat it up in a second.

What to Look for in a Host

Price and the best function ability, for that price, if you are brand new to website building and creation a free site builder, a WYSIWYG type of builder program, with templates that you can choose from and the ability to edit those that you do use.

You'll want included in your package.

'Free Unlimited Disk-Space, Bandwidth, E-mail, the Domain, and its registration included in this pricing. Set up of these to be free, and a Money Back offer is always nice.

These Sites of today are very competitive, and very reasonable you will, depending on you knowledge and ability will also want an On-line 24 hour support feature, by Phone or by Chat Box, or by E-mail.

So support is a must have, because a website that is down is not earning!

I am using FatCow.com for my second year now and they have gotten much better at providing support services, since my first year of service.

So my guess is all the newbies are wanting this Support Service and are wanting it the most, above all the other features offered.

Other than Support, you'll want as many free and/or low cost services as you can get. Those that you think you might want or those you know you want.

Such as help with Google Webmaster tools, a Verification Program, saying your site is secure and safe.

Statistics programming, and the ability to use others Statistical programs and tools on your Host's site.

So you will need the ability to change the site's code, to add and to subtract from and/or alter parts of your sites code.

A File Manager and the support to edit this code that makes up your site. Most hosts don't offer this support, but do provide the Manager program, but you can find forums and help sites for this code editing.

You don't need much knowledge here, but it is always to your benefit to learn some simple HTML coding.

Disk-space you may not need Unlimited disk-space and if you know this you can go a little cheaper, but if you post Pictures and Media you are going to want unlimited disk-space and Bandwidth, because pictures and media, such as audio and video take up large portions of disk-space, plus they'll draw more traffic.

Plus the high traffic! So if you are a worldwide distributor or a high traffic draw or have the potential to be, Unlimited bandwidth is a must, for your site.

Without this ability of unlimited your site will not be able to handle it, and this influx it will stall or slow down your load times and you don't want this.

So Unlimited Disk space for Site with many pages, pictures, and audio and/or video. For these types of sites Unlimited bandwidth and Unlimited Disk-space is a must.

If you are a ten page or less site with minimal traffic and you have been for years you don't need the extra expense of these unlimited features, but if you are high volume and high traffic site with lots of home based Media stores on and in your pages, it is a must or if you.

If you ever plan to be one of these websites get these options now and learn what they do for you.

Shared Hosting

If you are just starting out you can use a site that shares it Hosting services with many other newbies from hundreds to thousands of others.

I think it is the most economical of all hosting types. But always keep in mind your growth and the speed of your growth and the age of the Host.

Watch them close if they look like they taking a fall step up, if your site success demands you to step up then do it without hesitations for even if it is telling you to step down, you should never go backwards!

You should regroup, re-vamp, or just quit, because stepping down will lead you to this point anyway.

It is best to plan to go big in today's market, the price you pay today now, versus the price you'll pay tomorrow to convert if even possible, your site to a new type of site or to an upgraded site.

Whoa! Always keep this key factor in mind and plan for it your sites Growth!. Always plan ahead in the website business, always it changes daily.

ipage, hostmonster, and my hosting company FatCow are the top shared hosting companies, these Sites give you all the top features at the best prices for these features and they are up and comers.

So I plan to grow along with them hoping soon they will be a dedicated Hosting site as well as a shared hosting site.

I have not gone any further yet, in my discovery of the other types of sites. I have settled here, for this is where I am.

I am at the start or the bottom rung in the ladder so I will learn here with them and as I grow, because this industry is always growing, evolving, and improving.

Remember where you are today, is the place to be, until there is a need to be somewhere else.

The Little I Know About Landing Pages used for Direct Sales

Way back when I first started in about 2003. Trying to earn here on the WWW I tried Direct Sales and knew little if anything about Landing Pages, Squeeze Pages, Hooks, and the Like. I do know a little more now than then, but I am not Selling Directly at this moment.

Elements of a Good Landing Page, Home Page, or Ad Page

When Used Mostly for Direct Sales

They will contain all or most of these elements

1. A nice clean, clear, and crisp Headline
2. A sub-headline with the same features and colors *maybe one or two shades different and a near         Font
3. A short precise paragraph of introduction
4. A testimonial with proof or a credible witness statement
5. A rush heading or urgency heading (call to action statement)
6. A Click Now Button or Do It Now, Buy it Now, or Ending Soon
7. will Contain Several Links in the upper right hand corner of the page. ( Above the Fold)
8. May contain Bullets, Numbers, or Bold text points of interest
9. Section dividers

The Lower Portion of Landing Page

Page Headlines and Ad Copy *The first letter of every word Should Be All Caps

1. The landing page Headline and Advertisement wording or copy should compliment each other they should be of two different Fonts, but close in style.

2. Your Adword score allows a site to discover the possible value of your Sites keywords
This score can be improved by having concise and clear content between the Ad Message and the Call to Action Section

Clear and Concise Headlines will often be Bold or of a different color, only one or two shades different never loud or busy, just a subtle difference.

These being the first thing a reader's eyes will be drawn to, and what he will read on your Landing Page, Home Page or Ad Page.

Your Headline must not confuse or put your reader on alert making them think your site is ie. ( A Scam or BS Site used only for ad impressions) Instead It should make him desire to keep reading to the end.

Making your Point or any other points that relate to the Website, Product, and/or Offer will hold your reader's attention rather then boring them to tears.

Impeccable, But Elementary Grammar

1. You must provide the reader with a reasonable amount of trust and bad Spelling and Grammar are a conflict of their interest, (My biggest weakness I know,) because if you can't spell or use proper Grammar how on earth can you possibly know what you are saying. Trust is a big issue when selling to the masses.

Earning their trust and understanding the advantages obtained from the Value of having it!

1. An effective way of building trust is to always be truthful with testimonies, press mentions, guarantees, and to use 3rd party security certifications. ie. Better Business Bureau, VeriSign, Sitelock, etc. etc.

2. Many websites have seen and do see increased views when using 3rd party security services that offer Widgets, Badges, and Safe Site Symbols. Many are now well known. These will increase the traffic on your Landing Pages as well and ease the reader unto the next step or page.

Using a Call to Action, Strong or Passive

This will depend on what it is you are selling and your approach to selling it.

1.You must guide and direct with clarity what your readers need to do next while in your Ad Pages and Shopping Cart Pages.

Always offer a direct Shopping Cart Button! Buyers hate sites with endless steps to get to the Check Out and you may lose the sell if you do not offer this for the ready buyer.

2. Here use precise directions, by telling the reader what they need to do next to get and to receive the benefits, fully from this Site or Soon to End Offer.

Buttons and Call to Actions Need to Stand Out

1. Keyword Identification is a must, incentive words such as Free, New Buy, Upgrade or Download

2. A brief direction should appear before or right next to the Call to Action Button. ie. Buy Now, Click         Here, Download Now, Check Out, and Shopping Cart.

Use Videos and Images whenever they relate to your Copy, Product, or Site.

1. Testimonials, Product reviews, and How to Videos work very good, then pictures, and then text. But, a combination of them all works the best.

Keeping it Above the Fold

1. What is above the fold? It is the part of the page that loads first and the fastest. The reader shouldn't have to scroll to see this information. * Remember “Time” is of the essences you have less than 3 seconds to grab the reader's attentions.

2. Place Your Best Information Above the Fold, Especially Your Order Button and Your Calls to Action.

Colors and How and Why People use Them

Many Extensive Studies have been made on Colors and Opinions Vary, but here are some of the industries standards.

Yellow: Optimistic and youthful it grabs the attentions of viewers

Red: Energetic it increase heart rate and the Flight or Fight response, often used when Clearances are promoted.

Blue: Promotes trust and security, you'll see it all the time in Banks and Insurance Companies ads.

Green: Show me the money, relates to wealth it is the easiest color for the eye to process, used by Entertainment Websites.

Purple: Soothing, Calming often relates to Beauty and Royalty. A lot of Cosmetics and Perfume sties will use it.

Pink: Romantic, feminine, relates to woman and young girls. Clothing and Accessorizing sites, Breast Cancer Awareness Campaigns etc. etc.

Orange: Aggressiveness, used as call to Actions and Attention Grabbers

I Hope this Helps in some small way those of you seeking to better your Landing Pages and Squeeze Pages along with your ad copy. I am not currently using Direct Sales as of late, but have tried to and researched some others thoughts on Landing pages for the purpose of Direct Sales.

Here are some Of my Sites I am always trying to Follow my own advice and put into practice all that I learn daily as I Go and Grow:

My Blogger Blog

Triond.com Profile

Fan Page @ Facebook

wikinut.com Profile

Bloggers.com

Facebook.com Profile

Poetry, Writes and Other Stuff from Sinbad the Sailor Man

If you visit these sites you will see their Profile Page or the Landing Page of them and they will give you an overall picture to hold in your mind as you create your own.

Now if Direct sales is your goal you can go to almost any of today’s mini-sites builders and learn Ad copy and Squeeze Pages which are trimmed down expressed sales Copy that produce the call to Action or the incentive to purchase.

Traffic Slow Are You Having Trouble With Interactions?

Sometimes before you can see any one specific problem, you will have to break things down and apart, bust through the obstacles preventing you from seeing any problems that you have. Those that might be caused by your pride, ego, or inexperience.

If you’re finding it hard to get interaction from or (traffic) to, your Website/Blogs. There are a few questions you need to ask yourself.

Is your information accessible and mobilize? With more and more users searching via mobile devices and always on the go, do you offer this capability?

If you do not, users trying to find you may have hit a Stone wall, when they are out and about and on the go.

There’s nothing worse than trying to find your favorite websites, while on the road and finding out these sites only render from a certain or single venue/page and in a computer related format only and won’t load onto your cell phone, Ipad, and/or the next new device that is now mobile.

I am not talking from experience, just yet, because I have not taken these steps yet myself, but I plan to.

Is your Site/Blog is it properly optimized with keywords or tags, does your logo appear on all your pages, and your branding devices, along with your pen name?

Have you made it as easy for potential users and the search engines to find your content and their pages, do you have a Traffic Wheel?

Do you have a table of content or a TOC? Do you have your sitemaps up and working properly? That means using the correct keywords, linking them properly, making your site as crawl-able as possible for spiders, and staying away from the many common mistakes we newbies will and do make.

Sometimes before you can see any one specific problem you have. You need to break through the obstacles preventing you from seeing any problems at all, which might be caused by your pride, ego, or inexperience.

Seek others opinions, advice, and politely ask them for a review. Seek out a forum or a mentor to aid you in knowing what is hot and in the viewer's face, at any given point in time.

Personal Interaction, Do You Offer Any?

If you want to attract people, you have to give them more of you. You have to stand out from the crowd and show them something that they’ll want to see more of.

That is uniquely from you or how it is they can relate to you and your idea's, your site, and your methods. They may like the way you talk or write to them etc. etc.

Take a look at your own site. Does it have a great home page? If so, do not forget all the rest of its pages make sure they posses a nice clear, clean, and crisp Headline, make sure to keep to a format.

Remember Search Engines Don't send your viewers to only your home page but to the Tag or key word that brought up the association to begin with.

Do you use Sub Headlines with a slightly different size, color, and/or font? Do your links stand out or blend into that format? Do you have a short precise introduction paragraph? What are you showing your potential viewers/customers about your motives?

I don’t mean the ad graphics or the videos you choose to incorporate with your sites template. Do you even follow a template?

Can they experience what you are creating? Can they tell their still in your site when they click other links or did you send them to a new page and forget to tell them to hit the back button to return?

Are you using your site to set yourself apart, or do you come off like everyone else? Are you talking to viewers/customers in their own language or are you filling your pages up with buzzwords and technical jargon they do not yet understand?

The more powerful your differentiation is from the many others out there. Who can't create or relate to you and your style or what you have created, the better!

You’ll attract the right viewers/customers to yourself and your brand who will know others like you and themselves that want and desire your info, style, personality, flare, etc.etc.  ,.

If you’re finding it difficult still to attract viewer's, members, leads, Friends, followers, and so on, via your website/ blogs or landing pages (micro mini sites) It may be time to ask yourself some hard questions. But, before you can fix the problem, you first have to identify it.

Find all its quirks. What are some of the problems you’ve had, in the past attracting new leads? How have you fixed those problems? Do others you know and network with talk about these same problems? How did they solve them, have you done a search on them?

Customers Do Not Head to your Sites to Hear How Awesome You Are

They’re there because they have a problem they need you to fix or a question they need you to answer or they share a common Hobby or Dream of yours.

Your website should be designed to help them quickly achieve whatever it is they came for. Too many references of “you, and only you” or too, too much sales talk will turn them cold.

Instead offer more helpful information, and address their concerns or fears and the ones you have had and have worked through. Tell them why and what it is you are working for ie. Your wants/ and or desires.

This sharing will turn people's interest on instead of off or away. Your viewers /customers don’t care about you in most cases at first. All they care about initially is how it is you can help them.

Other things you must seek out and learn about are listed below in no certain order.

Getting Started make a plan and plot it out.
Choosing a Niche make it something you love, anything at all will work If, you love it.
Domain Names remember they will reflect you and what it is you do.
Blogging Platforms have several at least three.
Themes and Organization you'll need them.
Pages, Posts, and Widgets get it together learn from the best and keep learning.
Images, videos, and other Media, visual media it works!
Comments and Discussion/ Interaction
Headlines, Sub headlines and Content Creation Create, Create, Create!
SEO (search engine optimization) it's a must to learn from the best.
Post Lengths and Posting Frequency
Blog promotion, Social Media, Social Networking learn to use them and get involved
Guest Blogging do you allow this or do you want full control of the provided Information?
Sitemaps for your site and for your blogs.  Search Engines love sitemaps.
Privacy Policy people want to know this stuff and so will your Partners and Affiliates.

Now Can you be found?
Pen Names
Real name! Do you dare?
Reputation do you have any?
Are you reachable and approachable by email, by snail mail address, and/ or  by phone?
Are you willing to interact?

Is there a conversation path in place? And is it a one way or a two way stream? Do you have a FAQ Page?

Viewer's /customers don’t head to your site to hear how awesome you are. They come there because they have a problem, or an interest they need you to elaborate on, or a problem you know how to fix, or a question they need you to answer.

Many websites do not have a clear conversation path for their customers. If you want customers to take a certain action, you need to create a re pore with them. That lets them know how you intend to guide them. And that you are willing to do just that.

Simply stringing together a number of content pages won’t necessarily put someone on the path that you intend for them to take. The path may be a simple landing page, paired with a call to action, or as complex as a micro-niche site or as an expansive website.

Either way, you are in charge of designing the flow of your website. Creating a clear path not only helps customers feel more comfortable on your site, it also gives you a clear data system to track with, so that you can see where people are abandoning your site, where they’re engaging it or enter into it and from where, etc. etc.

The more data you have to act on, the better you can design your site to attract new viewers/customers.
